Virtually unknown to the outside world and undisturbed for centuries there is a place where time has stood still. This is Ibo Island, or as the locals call it: Ilha do Ibo.

IBO ISLAND LODGE

Ibo Island Lodge is situated on the Indian Ocean island of Ibo Island, just north of the small town of Pemba in the pristine Quirimbas Archipelago, Northern Mozambique

Ibo Island has been described as one of the most unique and magical islands in the world and is the perfect place to explore the Quirimbas Archipelago and National Park in Northern Mozambique.

Once Mozambique’s mighty trading centre, Ibo Island has remained all but forgotten to the outside world for almost a century.  When visiting Ibo it is not just the natural beauty of the island that strikes you. It is the beauty of the people.  It’s the mystery of the ancient buildings, old forts, history and fascinating stories crunching under your feet. It’s the slow and steady dhows that drift across the horizon, tracking the tides as they have done for centuries.

This is a place that time forgot, and now people are returning to know it again.

Guests partake in a multitude of experiences. Become immersed in the unchanged, ancient culture of Ibo and the chance to interact with wonderfully hospitable islanders.

Eat breakfast on a perfect sandbank beach surrounded by warm, turquoise sea. Then snorkel through delicate corals and tropical fish. Discover a coastline fringed by tropical islands on an ancient Arab Dhow or quietly kayak through the cool mangrove forest and winding canals where the bird life is abundant.

Snack on cashew nuts and dine on the freshest of seafood of every description.  And don’t forget to relax at one of the pools, refresh the senses with a frosty Mozambican beer and soak up the unique atmosphere that is Ibo Island Lodge.

IBO ISLAND - QUIRIMBAS ARCHIPELAGO

"It is quite unlike anywhere I've ever visited. If you took Gabriel García Márquez's village of Macondo from A Hundred Years Of Solitude and transported it from the Catholic legend of South America to Africa's eastern flank, then you would go some way to understanding Ibo's overwhelming magic."

Nick Maes
'The Guardian' newspaper UK
